AV Project - How to Build Your Pedalboard

Project Type

Audio/Visual

Date

November 2025

In March, I began my time working at EarthQuaker Devices, after a brief internship that took place in January. I joined the audio and social media department, assisting with video shoots and interviews with famous artists around NE Ohio. Before EQD, I knew nothing about cameras (and quite frankly, I still don’t… just kidding). So after learning that an AV project was a part of this assignment, I needed to learn as much as I could. My supervisor Chris taught me the basic ways of videography, as he’s been in this industry for around 20 years, and provided tips and tricks that he had received himself when he was my age. I will forever be grateful for having him as a supervisor, as it has made my time at EQD some of the most memorable of my life.

For the video, I chose the topic of “Guitar Pedal Order” as I felt that it could be utilized on the EQD Youtube channel in the near future. As this is a highly "controversial" topic in the guitar world, I knew it was the right topic for my video (especially if it was being published by a guitar pedal company…)

I used two cameras providing a front view and top-down view of the table. For the voiceover, I used one of Jamie Stillman’s (president of EQD) personal SM7b’s. As for the guitar mics, I used a Lauten condenser microphone and a SM57, each on different speaker cones and just off center of the cap. Lastly, the audio was edited with ProTools and the video was done in PremierPro.
